Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux, who played against the Brewers in a spring training game Saturday, is likely out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.

Kenosha Indian Trail alumnus and Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux tore his right ACL running the bases in a spring training game Monday, and he'll likely miss the entire 2023 season.

Lux, 25, stumbled awkwardly as he tried to duck a throw from third base against the San Diego Padres and had to be carted off the field in Peoria, Arizona.

He'll undergo surgery March 7.

Lux was expected to be the Dodgers' starting shortstop in his fifth big-league season after Trea Turner signed in the offseason with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Lux played primarily second base last year, posting an OPS of .745 and finishing with six homers and 42 RBIs in 129 games.

A first-round pick (20th overall) in 2016, he's been near the forefront of a Wisconsin wave in big-league baseball, one that also includes Milwaukee Brewers newcomer Owen Miller, Jarred Kelenic of the Seattle Mariners, Danny Jansen of the Toronto Blue Jays and Daulton Varsho, previously with the Arizona Diamondbacks but traded this offseason to Toronto.

Lux made his major-league debut in 2019 and became the youngest Dodgers player to hit a postseason home run that year at 21 years old. The top prospect was named the 2019 minor-league player of the year by Baseball America.
