West alleged on 4 July that he would be seeking office in the next election, although experts remain dubious that he will actually run.
Speaking on Hits Radio UK, Perry addressed the claims. “Well I think, you know, looking back, is that the Presidential job is best suited for someone with experience, and that is a pro in their field,” she said.
“I think we have seen and learned from experience that when we don’t have pros in the position, that it can get a little wild,” she added.
However, while the “I Kissed a Girl” singer seemed to disparage West’s credentials, she also expressed her admiration for him as an artist.
“I love Kanye! He is amazing! I just, you know, I love him as an artist,” she said. ”And I think he’s an incredible disruptor as an artist, and a conversation, you know, maker, as an artist. And that’s what I love the most about him.”
Perry is about to release a new album; her appearance on the radio followed the debut of her new single, “Smile”.
TV personality Sharon Osbourne also recently criticised West, calling the billionaire rapper and producer “embarrassing” for soliciting a government loan worth between $2m and $5m (£1.6m and £4m) to avoid layoffs at his footwear company Yeezy.
Tesla entrepreneur Elon Musk had indicated that he would be endorsing West’s presidential run, but has since suggested he is reconsidering his position.
