Kansas City under severe thunderstorm watch Tuesday evening until midnight: NWS
The National Weather Service was warning Kansas Citians of potentially dangerous weather on Tuesday evening as the metro area was put on notice for severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and heavy hail.
The weather service placed Kansas City and several parts of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas under a severe thunderstorm watch. The latest warning comes amid strong storms observed Tuesday evening in Holt County, north of St. Joseph.
Under the thunderstorm watch, the weather service advised of one or two tornadoes as a possibility, along with scattered hail the size of tennis balls. Scattered wind gusts nearing 70 miles per hour are also listed as a potential threat.

Earlier Tuesday, the weather service warned of potentially severe weather as strong storms were expected to land in central and northeastern Missouri.
The second round of storms developing Tuesday evening were expected to come along a cold front through the Kansas City area. The storms could form a squall line with gusty winds and perhaps a brief tornado as it moves eastward, according to the weather service.
People should remain aware of weather conditions and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, the weather service said.
