LOS ANGELES — PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan is recovering from a medical situation, according to a joint statement released late Tuesday by the PGA and the PGA Tour Policy Board.

"Jay Monahan informed the PGA Tour Policy Board that he is recuperating from a medical situation," the statement read. "The Board fully supports Jay and appreciates everyone respecting his privacy."

The tour's chief operating officer, Ron Price, and executive vice president, Tyler Dennis, will run the day-to-day operations, "with the assistance of the great team Jay has built, ensuring seamless continuity. We will provide further updates as appropriate."

Monahan has been under fire by many of the tour players after he announced a "transformational" deal last week in which the tour, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which owns LIV Golf, and the DP World Tour are forming a partnership in a yet unnamed for-profit commercial entity.

The board of directors of the new entity will include Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of Saudi's PIF, as chairman and Monahan as CEO. Monahan will oversee both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf when the agreement is finalized.

Jon Rahm said Tuesday many PGA Tour players feel "betrayed" and want to "have faith" in management but it's "clear that's not the consensus."

Monahan, 53, has been PGA Tour commissioner since 2017 when he replaced Tim Finchem. Monahan had been deputy commissioner and chief operating officer.
