There have been a steady stream of highlights shared on social media since the Chiefs opened training camp last month in St. Joseph.

Many of those have been of wide receiver Justyn Ross, who missed the 2022 season after undergoing foot surgery. Ross signed with the Chiefs last summer as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson.

In college, Ross put up big numbers early. But he had a congenital fusion in his spine and missed an entire season. His final season in 2021 was hampered by a stress fracture in his foot.

But Ross, 23, has looked healthy at Chiefs training camp and he has turned heads with plays like this.

Those highlights have caught the attention of an NFL quarterback: Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence. He was asked about Ross’ highlights over the weekend.

“Yeah,” Lawrence told reporters with a smile. “I’ve seen them.”

Lawrence and Ross are former Clemson teammates, and the Jaguars quarterback is thrilled that his friend is thriving at Chiefs camp.

“It makes me feel happy for him. I played with him, I know him really well,” Lawrence said. “We came in together at Clemson. Great player, great player, and just the person he is. He’s got a great work ethic and to see obviously the battles he has had to go through, some of the adversity. It’s cool to see him kind of getting this opportunity and I hope he continues to play well and takes it and runs and the Chiefs use him well. I think they will.

“So, it’s been awesome to see from him. Obviously I have seen that a million times in practice so I am not surprised at all. But to see him get that opportunity, it makes me happy and I’m just excited for him.”
