Jackson State football's Travis Hunter not playing vs. Alabama State
Jackson State football star freshman Travis Hunter is not playing in the Tigers' game at Alabama State on Saturday. Hunter, the nation's No. 1 high school recruit in the class of 2022, has not played since Jackson State's opener against Florida A&M.
The cornerback and wide receiver's commitment to Jackson State last December sent shock waves through college football for choosing an FCS program as a blue-chip recruit.
Last week, Jackson State coach Deion Sanders said Hunter is getting closer to playing again.
“He will play when he is healthy,” Sanders said. “He went out there the first game just off of emotion and he wanted to go and do his thing and he did. He shut down at the corner," Sanders said last week. "The kid is so darn unbelievable. … We are going to keep him and hold him because we care about him and his physical and mental ability. We are going to keep him and hold him because we care about him and his physical ability and mental capacity as well."

"We are going to make sure that he is truly healthy mentally, physically, and psychologically. When you see him, you are going to see the real Travis, offensively and defensively, you are going to see the real Travis and not a half a guy.”
Jackson State (4-0, 2-0) is ranked No. 8 in FCS and No. 1 among HBCU programs.
