Sometimes you just run into a juggernaut.

That was the case Friday for the Iowa State softball team, falling 9-0 in five innings to top-ranked Oklahoma (50-1) in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament. The loss likely ends the season for the Cyclones at 25-30.

The Sooners, who have won back-to-back national titles, got off to a hot start by hanging three runs in the opening frame. They improved on that by adding four more in the second inning and held Iowa State to just two baserunners over the first two frames. Oklahoma only allowed one hit on the day, which came in the fourth inning when Iowa State infielder Carli Spelhaug notched a single toward the shortstop.

Saya Swain was in the circle for the Cyclones. She tossed two and one-third innings and gave up four hits, four runs and got a strikeout. Ellie Spelhaug, who dominated in Thursday's tournament opener against Baylor, came on in relief. Ellie Spelhaug gave up six hits and five runs in one and two-thirds innings of work, including a three-run home run from Oklahoma shortstop Grace Lyons that broke the game wide open. Lyons had four RBIs on the afternoon.

Oklahoma advances to Saturday's Big 12 Tournament final where they'll take on either Kansas or Texas.
