New refreshed road signage at the state borders will welcome Hoosiers, visitors and those just passing through to let people know there is "more to discover" in Indiana.

As part of a push to grow the state's tourism and economy, the 19 new interstate road signs are part of the larger "IN Indiana" campaign, created by the Indiana Destination Development Corporation, to inspire more out-of-state visitors to move, work or visit the Hoosier state.

The signs will be installed by May 26, just in time for the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday. The racing spectacle is estimated to bring about 300,000 people to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and is annually considered one of the largest sporting events in the world.

In June after the racing frenzy, 57 more signs will be installed along non-interstate roads.

"We are thrilled to extend the reach of the IN Indiana campaign throughout the entire state," said Elaine Bedel, IDDC Secretary and CEO, in a news release. "Tourists and residents will have a warm Indiana welcome whenever they cross our state borders."

The signage will cost about $43,000, according to an INDOT spokesperson.
