Indiana Fever waive second-year guard Destanni Henderson

The Indiana Fever waived second-year guard Destanni Henderson on Tuesday.

The Fever have 14 players on the roster and need to get down to 12 before the season opener Friday against Connecticut at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Henderson is the fourth cut, having already parted ways with forwards Emily Engstler and LaDazhia Williams and guard Renina Davis.

"There's just so many good players out there now and there's just not room," Fever coach Christie Sides said last week.

Henderson proved she was a gamer at South Carolina, scoring 26 points in the 2022 national title game to help the Gamecocks claim the title alongside Fever's No. 1 overall pick Aliyah Boston. Last season, largely operating as the second-unit point guard, Henderson showed positive flashes averaging 5.3 points and 2.5 assists per game. The former second-round pick continued to operate as the backup point guard in camp. She's quick with the ball in her hand, but can also shoot from distance, hitting on 26 of 71 3-point attempts (36.6%) last season.
