Hundreds shared their hopes for a 'reimagined' Jackson Street. See the results

Designers have taken feedback from hundreds of surveys and incorporated them into a plan to "reimagine" West Jackson Street.

The Jackson Street plan, dubbed Reimagine Jackson Street, is intended to improve safety along Jackson Street and make the roadway more pedestrian-friendly, while also enhancing existing neighborhoods and businesses in the area.

The project launched with a public meeting in March including a multi-lingual survey that garnered over 300 responses.

In a pair of public meetings today, citizens will have the chance to come back to the table and share their response to the initial plans and concepts for the roadway improvement project.

This second public meeting will be an opportunity for residents to comment on the specific proposals for the corridor. Project lead, Catherine Prince, said the community’s input during the first meeting was vital for guiding the design team’s proposed improvements and hoped to continue that dialogue at the second meeting, and that she was looking forward to sharing concepts and renderings developed using citizen input.

In addition to the public meeting, the City of Pensacola Community Redevelopment Agency and the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners will hold a joint workshop at 3 p.m. Tuesday to discuss conceptual options for the Reimagine Jackson Street project based on preliminary public input and data analysis.

The workshop will be held at Pensacola City Hall in the Hagler-Mason Conference room, located at 222 W. Main St. The workshop agenda will be available on the City of Pensacola website. This meeting is also open to the public.

"We think it's important for the West Side," Mayor Grover Robinson said of the project during a regular press conference Monday morning. "It's certainly important for the improvements that have been made to Palafox that we look at what's going on in continuing to make Jackson a safe pedestrian and bike street."
