HS TRACK: Jim Thorpe girls win Olympian Invite

May 5—JIM THORPE — Jim Thorpe captured the girls' championship and Shamokin Area took the top spot on the boys' side Thursday at the Olympian Invite at Jim Thorpe High School.

The Olympian girls scored 116 points and won six events on their home track out of 18 teams. Kalia O'Connor won the 100-meter dash and 300 hurdles, Celia Rodriguez Gonzalez placed first in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs and Katrin Cavanaugh earned gold in the pole vault. Rodriguez Gonzalez also teamed with Aubrey Bonner, Gabby Cinicola and Nicole Carroll to capture the 3,200 relay.

Marian's Fatihka Tikhtova was a double winner, winning the high jump and long jump. Other Schuylkill League winners included Nativity's Sara Spolski (400), Tamaqua's Katelynn Fredericks (110 HH) and Blue Mountain's Rosalind Gergely (javelin). Gergely helped the Eagles place second in the team race with 98.33 points.

On the boys' side, Shamokin Area scored 139 points and captured first place in four events out of 20 teams, with Jim Thorpe second at 109 points.

Nativity's Noah Dolbin (110 HH, long jump) and Michael Stank (100, 400) were double winners.

Jim Thorpe's Ridge Snyder took first in the 800 and teamed with Ryan Bailor, Ivan Turczeniuk and Jordan Remmel to place first in the 3,200 relay. Jim Thorpe's Zeeshan Issifu, Andrew Coolbaugh, Andrew Warner and Joshua Louk took home the top spot in the 400 relay.

North Schuylkill's Joey Flail won the 200, while Mahanoy Area's Colm McGroarty took first in the 300 hurdles.
