Hot Sauce for Coffee Is Here and It Actually Sounds Pretty Good

When you take that first sip of coffee in the morning, do you ever think there’s something missing? Do you put hot sauce on everything, including weird stuff you're too embarrassed to admit? If you answered yes to both of those questions, boy, oh boy, do we have the pantry item for you.

Introducing Ujjo, the world's first hot sauce for coffee. Yes, you read that right. The condiment was actually created with the intention of spicing up your morning cup of Joe.

If you’re still not sold, you’re in good company—Ujjo’s founder Lauren D’Souza was also not a fan when she first tried a splash of hot sauce in her coffee on a dare. But the experience got the ball rolling and after 70 tries in the kitchen, Lauren perfected the recipe.

The key to Ujjo is that it eliminates the use of vinegar and garlic typically found in most hot sauces. Instead, each bottle is made with an all-natural sweetener base as well as the right combination of chilis and other cozy spices, like allspice and cinnamon, to blend with your favorite caffeinated beverage. Plus, the heat it packs won’t overwhelm your tastebuds after one sip, or pool at the bottom of your cup—the recipe is crafted to mix well and deliver an even heat.

Currently, the brand has two sauces to choose from that target different coffee preferences. There’s the Ujjo Dark Roast blend that’s made with cinnamon, cocoa, and vanilla, which would be great in a dark roast coffee, espresso, or even dashed into a pumpkin pie. Then there’s the Ujjo Light Roast blend that uses ginger for a bit of heat, great for light or medium roast coffee.

If you’re itching to get your hands on a bottle, you can do so as of now through their Kickstarter. If you choose to pledge $22 or more, you'll get a two-pack sampler when the Kickstarter officially ends, and the options go up from there depending on how much you want to spend.

You’ll probably want to sign up now as these bottles might go quick—the project exceed its goal of $5,000 after just seven hours and is already nearing $10,000! Spice fans are serious folks!
