Hornet senior Charlie Teller signs to bowl with Jackson College

HILLSDALE — After an impressive finish to his senior campaign which included a first-team all-conference honor, Hillsdale senior Charlie Teller has found his next bowling team. The senior student-athlete signed with the Jackson College bowling team. Charles Teller III is the first bowler in Hillsdale program history to sign with a college.

The senior started bowling as young as four years old, where he joined the youth leagues on Saturday mornings at Hillsdale Lanes. Charlie's passion for the game grew quickly as it became his favorite hobby and sport. He moved to L & J Lanes his sophomore year.

"Bowling has always been my all-time favorite sport and hobby," said Teller. "Bowling takes a lot of time to get good at, and that is why I am glad at started at a young age."

Teller said that Jackson College caught his attention after he researched into the team, which has had successful seasons in the past. "I like to see in a team a group of people that want to win," said Teller.

Teller plans to bring his talents to Jackson College, where he also will continue his academic career. The senior was a member of the Academic All-State Tennis team from his junior season. Teller plans to pursue a career in Cyber Security. Teller says he has always loved technology, and he hopes to further his education in that potential career field.

The senior hit strong final bowling numbers in his senior season, including a game-high of 233 and a 458 series. His highest series was from his sophomore season, where he bowled a 498. His highest game total was a 289 his freshman season. The senior has been a member of the Hillsdale Tennis team as well, where he helped lead the 2022-23 squad.

Teller had several people to thank for helping him get to this point in his academic and athletic career. Several of those people joined him for his signing day at Hillsdale High School including coach Jeff Grant and his father Charles Teller Jr.

"I just want to thank my entire family for helping me get to bowling throughout the years and all the money spent on bowling and the equipment. I also want to thank my dad for helping me become the bowler I am today."

Jackson College is a public institution in Jackson, Mich. The team competes in the NJCAA Division II athletic division. The Jackson College Jets men's bowling team is led by Steve Spears.
