Hollyoaks confirms Cher is staying after surprising dad Sylver McQueen
Hollyoaks spoilers for Tuesday's (June 2) first-look episode follow.
Sylver McQueen's long-lost daughter Cher has been involved in another bombshell in Hollyoaks.
The teenager surprised Sylver (David Tag) earlier this week by turning up to reveal that she was the secret daughter born after he'd slept with a dental nurse in prison years earlier.
There was mass confusion in Tuesday's first-look episode when Sylver pleaded to Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) that Cher was lying. After all, Sylver had always claimed Mercy was the only woman he'd slept with prior to getting out of jail.
Once Mercedes and Goldie (Chelsee Healey) stormed out, desperate Sylver even agreed to buy Cher's (Bethany Hare) silence for £3,000 in hopes of getting her to leave — but his plans imploded when the girl's mum, Kelly, arrived!
With the evidence mounting, Sylver finally confessed to sleeping with Kelly all those years ago, and found that Mercedes was surprisingly forgiving.
"I lied to you when I said you were the only one I made love to," he admitted, with Mercy rationalising: "I'd hardly call a quickie behind bars 'making love'."
Sylver even admitted he was wrong to try to send Cher away, asking to build a relationship with her instead. The lothario ultimately got more than he bargained for when Kelly announced that she was leaving Cher with her dad to move to Greece!
With Cher now in Hollyoaks to stay, David Tag opened up to Digital Spy this week about why Sylver had lied about sleeping with Kelly in the first place.
"I think because Sylver is such a symbol of the truth and honesty, the fact that he's told such a massive lie, means that his reaction now is, 'Oh my God! I've got to do everything in my power to cover this up so that nobody ever finds out,'" he explained.
"I'm not sure why he made it up in the first place that he'd only ever slept with Mercedes – I think maybe he was just trying to impress Mercedes! But now that it's all come to a head, Sylver is panicking. He doesn't know what to do."
Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 will feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites to compensate for the soap suspending filming.
