HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sunday's MIAA state tournament highlights

There were 15 South Shore high school teams competing in the MIAA state tournament on Sunday.

SOFTBALL

Div. 1: Braintree 13, Lynn English 3: The No. 26 Wamps (12-9) will play at No. 7 Bishop Feehan on Monday at 3 p.m. in the Round of 32.

Div. 2: Oliver Ames 22, Commerce 0: Katie Melendy struck out 10 and allowed one hit in a five-inning shutout for the Tigers. Emily Martin went 3-for-4 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored. Maddie Homer (4-for-5, two RBIs, three runs) and Devon Morris (3-for-4, four RBIs, three runs) also had big days.

Div. 4: Cohasset 9, Pope Francis 4 (9 inn.): The Skippers (9-8) exploded for five runs in the top of the ninth inning to advance in the state tournament. No. 33 Cohasset will play at top-seeded Case on Monday 4 p.m.

Div. 4: Abington 8, Whittier 1: Kayden Lynch went 2-for-3 and belted a three-run home run and a triple as the No. 13 Green Wave (14-7) advance to the Sweet 16. Shannon Varvitsiotis struck out 11 batters and allwed two hits.

Div. 5: Greenfield 12, Holbrook 0: The No. 33 Bulldogs (13-5) lost to the top seed in the Round of 32.

Div. 5: Mount Greylock 7, Carver 4: The No. 31 Crusaders lost to the No. 2 seed in the Round of 32. Jenna Newell had two RBIs and Hannah Kaiser was 2-for-3.

BOYS LACROSSE

Div. 2: Silver Lake 9, Nashoba 8 (OT): Sophomore Noah Pallesci tallied the winning goal as the No. 18 Lakers (8-9) advance to the Round of 16.

Div. 3: Hanover 16, Bishop Fenwick 7: The No. 11 Hawks (7-11) will play at No. 6 Dracut on Wednesday in the Sweet 16.

Div. 4: Cohasset 18, Blue Hills 4: The top-seeded Skippers rolled behind big games from Luke Willmott (17-for-20 on faceoffs), Rob Norton (five goals, two assists), John Shannon (three goals, two asssits) and Max Monahan (two goals, assist). Thomas Hansen, Dan McGinty and Tyler Wosneski played well defensively.

BASEBALL

Div. 3: Belchertown 5, Norwell 4 (10 inn.): The No. 34 Clippers (13-8) lost in the preliminary round.

Div. 4: Abington 6, Mashpee 1: The No. 12 Green Wave (13-8) will host No. 28 AMSA on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Sweet 16.

GIRLS TENNIS

Div. 2: Minnechaug 4, Oliver Ames 1: Stella Zachos had OA's lone point at third singles.

Div. 2: Scituate 5, Bedford 0: The No. 7 Sailors (17-2) will host No. 10 Notre Dame Academy in the Sweet 16 on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Div. 2: North Quincy 3, Nipmuc 0: The No. 3 Raiders (18-3) swept Nipmuc 25-14, 25-15, 25-14. North Quincy will host No. 14 Longmeadow in the Sweet 16.
