Haas Middle School seventh grader Lucas Tinajero hits two home runs for Team USA

Lucas Tinajero, a soon to be seventh grader at Haas Middle School, is taking full advantage of a trip to Taiwan playing with the USA Baseball 12U national team.

The team is competing at the World Baseball Softball Confederation U-12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan, and Tinajero has played a major role in their success.

Tinajero has played in three games and is a combined 5 for 7 with two home runs and five RBI as both home runs came in a 28-1 blowout against Italy on Sunday. Tinajero has played multiple positions for Team USA, including pitching.

The squad is 2-1 in the opening round with wins over Australia and Italy and a loss to Venezuela. Team USA will finish opening round against Mexico on Tuesday and Korea on Wednesday. Elimination rounds will begin later this week.

Tinajero earned a spot on the roster at the 12U National Team Trials in California earlier this month. Haas is the third area player to earn a spot on a national team in the last six months as Refugio rising senior Jared Kelley played for Team USA at the U-18 Pan American Championship and Ray grad and Baylor junior Nick Loftin played for the USA Baseball Selects 2019 Collegiate National Team.
