#WernleMurderTrial

An Irondequoit man was convicted of second-degree murder Friday in the fatal beating Brighton businessman Edward “Ted” Boucher last May. A jury also found Christopher Wernle guilty of tampering with evidence. Police found Boucher’s body stuffed under a porch at Wernle’s Helendale Road home, which prosecutors said was a haven for illicit activity. Women rented rooms from Wernle and brought clients there for prostitution. Boucher was a frequent visitor through a relationship with one of those women, who used the large sums of money he paid her to fund her drug addiction. Prosecutors maintained that Wernle was jealous of Boucher’s relationship with the woman and struck him in the head more than 31 times with a murder weapon that has not been found.

#RestaurantNews

More than 20 restaurants and food establishments have either shuttered or announced their closing dates for 2022. Owners cite a variety of reasons, with lease issues, labor shortages and rising costs at the top. We will miss the meat vending machine at McCann’s Local Meats after the butcher shop shuts down in August and already miss the pastries at Boxcar Donut, although the owners plan to reopen in a new, yet-to-be-announced space.

#SteppingUpToThePlate

Jim Gaffigan is doing two shows Friday night at the Auditorium Theatre. And on social media Friday morning the comedian suggested he *might* grab a Garbage Plate before or after those performances. On Instagram, beside a photo of him about to eat his first Garbage Plate at Nick Tahou Hots in January 2020, he wrote: "Rochester - Garbage plate before tonight’s 7pm show? Before 9:30 show? After 9:30 show?" On Twitter, Nick Tahou's let Gaffigan know they close at 7 but would be happy to accommodate him if he gets in touch.

See you Monday.
