Groton Legion and Castlewood amateur baseball teams also record Wednesday victories
Watertown Post 17 rebounded from an extra-inning loss in the opener to salvage a split of an American Legion Baseball doubleheader against Renner Post 307 on Wednesday at Watertown Stadium.
Post 17 (23-24 on the season) led 6-3 after six innings in the opener before falling 7-6. A six-run third inning and strong pitcher by Justin Remmers helped Watertown win the second game 7-2.
Kaden Rylance homered leading off the bottom of the sixth in the opener to snap a 3-3 tie and Post 17 added two more runs in the inning on an error.
Renner (18-12) rallied in the top of the seventh with run-scoring singles by Sullivan Schlimgen, Zach Dunham and Hunter Den Boer to tie the game before winning it on Charlie Hueners' sacrifice fly with one out in the top of the eighth.
Schlimgen, Dunham, Leo Hueners and De Boer each had two hits for Renner. Braylon Bear went seven innings and earned the win. Billy Laible earned the save.
Rylance finished with two hits and Treyton Himmerich drove in two runs for Post 17. Jackson Maag started and pitched six innings. Jack Heesch took the loss in relief.
A two-run double by Heesch, run-scoring doubles by Austin Johnson and Nathan Briggs and a run-scoring single by Rylance spearheaded the big third-inning uprising for Post 17 in the nightcap. Carson Mutschler also hit a double to back Remmers, who scattered four hits over six innings on the mound.
Kyle Konechne and Dunham each had two hits for Renner.
Groton 5, Clark-Willow Lake Senators 1
GROTON — Ryan Groeblinghoff allowed only two hits and struck out 12 in 6 2/3 innings to lead Groton to the American Legion Baseball win on Wednesday.
Bradin Althoff and Tate Larson each doubled for Groton, which led 5-1 after two innings and held on.
Lucas Kanneigeter smacked a double for the Senators (3-4). Trey Huber went the distance in the loss.

Castlewood Monarchs 22, Ramona Express 6
RAMONA — Matt Steffensen went 5-for-5 with a double, triple, four runs scored and three runs batted in to power the Monarchs to the Eastern Dakota League win on Wednesday.
Other leaders for the Monarchs included Kyler Tvedt (a double and two singles), Jacob Tvedt (three singles, three runs scored and three RBIs), David Prohl (two hits, four runs scored and two RBIs), Hunter SMith (a double and a single, three runs scored and three RBIs).
Skyler Solsaa earned the win for Castlewood (3-6 overall and in the EDL).
Castlewood Ravens 13, Volga Cormorants 6
VOLGA — Kellan Benck clubbed a grand slam and also fanned eight batters in six innings on the mound to lead the Ravens to the Eastern Dakota League win on Wednesday.
Nate Phinney added three hits, including a double and a homer, and also scored and drove in three runs each. Hunter Lee went 4-for-4 with a double. Braedon Zaug drove in three runs with two hits, Jared Urbach also had two hits. Sam Stroup doubled and Zach Hirsch homered.
Dylen Milton collected three hits and Bayley Colmer and Christopherson two each for Volga. Noah Puetz slugged a homer and Colmer a double.
