'Great catch:' Jason Pinnock talks wild reaction to viral one-handed pick at Giants camp
EAST RUTHERFORD - New York Giants safety Jason Pinnock lost count of the mentions on social media.
The text and Instagram alerts in his inbox combined reached just over 1,000, a conservative estimate, Pinnock joked.
But the message that struck a chord in the celebration of Pinnock's spectacular one-handed interception that ended the Giants' training camp practice Sunday was the one from his father in a phone call later that night.
"Oh, man, great catch," Pinnock said when asked what Dad told him. "But it's about what you do tomorrow."

Video of Pinnock's pick went viral Sunday, as he grabbed a Daniel Jones pass that was intended for tight end Darren Waller in the back of the end zone. He leaped in front of Waller, who has been wowing Giants fans since camp began last week, and in one motion as if he were a windmill softball pitcher, Pinnock swiped the football in mid-air with his right hand.
"I've done that a few times," Pinnock said with a laugh. "But that one's probably the best."

The play itself came during the final drill of the session in which the offense faced off with the defense at the goal line, the side that prevailed would send the other for post-practice sprints. Jones was chased out of the pocket by star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, and with safety Xavier McKinney also closing in, head coach Brian Daboll actually blew the play dead for a would-be sack.
The sound of the whistle was drowned out by the crowd, though, so Jones continued to scramble and ultimately fired in the direction of Waller. Pinnock, who has been working with the starters this summer, had other ideas.
“It was crazier than what I thought. It was a little wild," Pinnock said. "It was cross-body. It looked dope. It looked cool. I ain’t gonna lie. I’m not going to hype myself up, but it was a hell of a catch.”
Asked if Lawrence had anything to say about the play and the sack that seemingly everyone but Daboll ignored, Pinnock joked: "He did. He did. But he said, 'Look man, forget my sack. That was a pick,' and I agree with him."
