My suddenly enlarged pores: they could be karma for all the times I've mentally criticized the blackheads of basically anyone who has ever done my nails at the salon. But, the more viable causes for the tiny holes across my cheeks and nose could also be face masks, weather change and the fact that I'm getting older.
"Pore sizes and numbers vary largely by gender, locations on the body, and by ethnicities," said board-certified dermatologist, Tiffany Libby, in a recent interview with Brydie. "Like many other traits, they are a result largely of genetics." Those with oily skin types are more likely to experience clogged pores, which inhibits excess sebum and bacteria, leading to whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.
While intense pulsed light (IPL) facials have always done the trick to control my acne and help visibly diminish the look of my pores, I've been effectively tackling this woe with one particular clay mask: the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Hyaluronic Clay Pore-Tight Facial.

Whipped and fluffy in texture, this new formula doesn't dry out or crack on the skin as it sets on the face — unlike traditional clay masks that often leave your face feeling tight and dry. Offering a soothing and refreshing experience, it hydrates and decongests the skin with the help of watermelon enzymes, PHA and BHA, and ultra-fine blueberry seed powder.

When tackling acne and breakouts, the goal is to clear your pores while allowing oxygen to flow freely through them, so bacteria can't multiply. Powered with hyaluronic acid and kaolin clay, it delivers an instant boost of hydration while gently exfoliating the skin for a clearer-looking complexion. What I love most about this mask is that it works in just five short minutes — acting as the perfect prep for selfies and Zoom video calls sans the skin-blurring filter.
I find this formula most effective after a warm shower or after steaming my face with my mini steamer (the steam helps open up my pores for the mask to penetrate better). In addition to getting inside those pores, it provides gentle physical and chemical exfoliation to help brighten the skin.
While the Watermelon Glow Hyaluronic Clay Pore-Tight Facial hasn't made much of a difference regarding the hormonal acne on my chin, it has changed the texture and wear of my makeup around my nose area and between my brows significantly. Over the past week and a half, I've noticed fewer bumps and shine.
