Glee's Lea Michele has deleted her Twitter account following the disappearance of former co-star Naya Rivera.

Michele's page, which had over four million followers, disappeared from the social media site on Saturday (July 11).

Although she's not yet provided a reason for the deletion of her account, the actress had been subjected to abusive tweets and messages calling for her to comment on the disappearance of Rivera.

Michele had been inactive on all social media since June 3, after posting a statement on her Instagram addressing accusations about her behaviour on the set of Glee.

During the course of the show, the actress was rumoured to have had a feud with Rivera, who wrote about the tensions between them in her 2016 memoir Sorry Not Sorry.

Rivera, who played Santana Lopez on Glee, was reported missing after renting a boat with her 4-year-old son on Wednesday (July 8). When the boat wasn't returned, staff set off to retrieve it, only to find her child on board alone. The actress is feared to have drowned.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff's Office in California confirmed that the search for Rivera has now moved to a "recovery operation".

"Upwards of 100 law enforcement and emergency personnel – including several dive teams from Sheriff's Departments around the region – are searching the depths of Lake Piru for the body of Naya Rivera who is missing with all indications she drowned in Lake Piru," a sheriff's department spokesperson told NBC News Los Angeles.

"The number of on-scene personnel is about double the number of people who were searching yesterday after Rivera's son was found alone on a boat on the lake, which is about 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles."
