Genesis reveals GV80 coupe concept performance electric SUV
NEW YORK − Genesis revealed plans for an upcoming electric performance SUV with classic luxury coupe proportions in a concept car it unveiled in advance of the New York auto show.
Called the Genesis GV80 coupe concept, the four-door, four-passenger vehicle combines the horizontal lighting common to the luxury brand’s other EVs with new audacity, creative director Luc Donckerwolke said.
Clearly sharing its drivetrain and other major systems with the GV70 gasoline and electric SUVs Genesis already sells, the GV80’s long hood and fastback rear echo classic performance coupes. Its ground clearance and high seating position mark it as an SUV.
The concept vehicle featured four twin horizontal LED bars for its headlights and taillights, and along its blistered front fenders. The lights complement the hood and roofline creating an impression of size. A spoiler on the ducktail rear end increases downforce at speed.
The concept has a carbon fiber roof and five-spoke aluminum wheels to reduce weight.

Genesis adds electric power and 500 pounds to SUV. Here's what I love about it.
Magma orange and nappa leather
The interior probably strays farther from the upcoming production model than the GV80’s exterior styling. The interior is trimmed in black nappa leather and suede.
The accent stitching and exterior paint are a shade of orange Genesis calls magma.
“The color symbolizes the self-confident and passionate attitude of Korea,” Donckerwolke said. It’s also close to the Dutch orange legions of fans wear to support hard-charging Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen, a coincidence that doesn’t hurt the fast and luxurious car’s first impression.
Genesis plans to sell solely electric vehicles by 2030.
The Genesis GV80 will be on display at the New York International Auto Show, which opens Friday and runs through April 16.
