In life, you're either a Gavin, a Stacey, a Smithy, or a Nessa, and today, we're definitely a Stacey.

Following Gavin & Stacey's long-awaited Christmas special last month, Joanna Page has revealed whether she thinks a return to Barry is on the cards – and how desperately she needs a resolution to that proposal cliffhanger.

Speaking to The Sun, Joanna – who plays Stacey Shipman – admitted that she has "no idea" if the beloved sitcom will return after its one-off episode, but added: "If I had to put a bet on it, I would say yes."

"I thought we would never do it again," she continued. "I spent 10 years telling people we were never doing it again, then suddenly we did the special!"

Weighing in on the special's ending, which saw Nessa pop the question to a stunned Smithy, Joanna echoed what all fans are thinking. "When I first read [the script] on my phone and got to the end I thought, 'What?! They can't leave it like that!'

"I want to know if Smithy is going to say yes, so they've got to do one," she said.

While it's highly unlikely the BBC would turn down another episode or two (the Christmas special alone has been watched for the equivalent of 80 years online), Joanna confirmed that the final decision lies with co-creators and stars James Corden and Ruth Jones.

"It's down to James and Ruth together because they both write it together," she said. "They are best friends, they write and collaborate together so it's up to them and what they want to do."

Gavin & Stacey's 2019 Christmas special is available now on DVD.
