From House Beautiful

Not only are Lowe's and The Home Depot our go-to stores for picking up materials for our next DIY project, but they're also great places to learn a few tips and tricks ourselves. While the DIY section of House Beautiful Youtube Channel offers a variety of projects to tackle, if you're looking for in-person instruction, you can head to Lowe's and The Home Depot for some fun, hands-on classes led by store associates. Both retailers offer FREE DIY workshops—including a special workshop for kids—in most locations nationwide. All you have to do is register online to guarantee a seat. All stores hosting the class will be tackling the same project, which you can preview online while registering.

Lowe's Workshops

Each week, Lowe's hosts a weekly DIY workshop on Saturdays from 10 am to 11:30 am. To give you an idea of what type of topics the classes tackle, currently there's a "Closet Organization" class and "Install Crown Moulding, Base Boards, and Quarter Rounds" class on the schedule.

There's also a DIY Kids Workshop held once a month. If you thought this was just an arts and crafts class for the kiddos, think again: For Valentine's Day, the kids class will be making an adorable "Love Note Holder" from real wood. While the class is scheduled from 9 am to 12 pm, it's a drop-in setup and the project should only take 15 to 30 minutes. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult. Lowe's also offers a series of Women-only workshops.

The Home Depot Workshops

If you're not won over by the Lowe's class schedule, give The Home Depot's class schedule a gander. The Home Depot offers a similar lineup of classes: The Do-It-Yourself Workshops, Do-It-Herself Workshops, and Kids workshops. Much like Lowe's, the female-only workshop seems to have very limited offerings. However, the Do-It-Yourself Workshops and Kid's Workshop are offered in most stores.

The next two Do-It-Yourself Workshops on the schedule include "Easy Bath Updates" and "Installing Tile Backsplash." They also run from 10 am to 11:30 am on Saturday mornings. The Kid's Workshop offered monthly will take on "Heart String Art" for its Valentine's Day craft. All kids must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and will receive a certificate, workshop apron, and a commemorative pin to bring home along with their craft (while supplies last).
