Future Black History Makers: Meet Arielle Gourdine, a first-grader at Stoney Point Elementary
Arielle Gourdine, 7, is in first grade at Stoney Point Elementary School.
She was nominated as a Future Black History Maker because "Arielle is a creative young lady. She has a love for detail, and is often adding pictures to her writing, or extra details to our directed drawings," her nominator writes. "She flourishes in the moments where she can be an individual, and allow her imagination to soar! She is artistic, detailed, and kind to others. She gives her very best effort, whether it is as a student, or as a friend."

What's your favorite subject? Math
What do you want to be when you grow up? An artist
What are your hobbies? My hobbies are drawing and playing hide and seek with my sisters and brother.
What are you really good at doing? I'm good at drawing, decorating and helping others.
What's your favorite thing about yourself? I follow my heart.
Who is your role model? My mommy
If you could meet any famous person, who would it be? I would like to meet 1K Phew.
What's your favorite song? "Speed Racer" by 1K Phew.
What's your favorite food or drink? I like to drink grape juice.
What's your favorite movie or TV show? I like "Star Wars" movies and TV shows.
What's your favorite book? My favorite book is "Biscuit Goes Camping."

What makes your child a Future Black History Maker? Arielle is very gifted in artistic expression and she exemplifies the need to help others at any cost. Arielle would love to become a well-known artist one day and would like to use her painting to bring joy to people all over the world. As a young Black girl, she hopes to be an example of happiness and perseverance despite the obstacles she might face.
Why are you proud of your child? We are very proud of Arielle because she is definitely a go-getter. She doesn't let anything stop her from trying new things and is more than capable of overcoming the challenges that she may face. We are also proud of her artistic abilities, and most recently, we have seen her flourish in the arts as she has begun drawing self-portraits of others. Arielle is simply brilliant at such an early age!
