FSU baseball allows program-record tying 24 runs in series opener loss to Virginia Tech
Florida State baseball's season hit a new low Friday in the series opener against Virginia Tech.
In front of 4,262 fans at Dick Howser Stadium, the Seminoles blew an early five-run lead, falling 24-9 to the Hokies, for their eighth straight loss and 18th loss in 19 games.
The 24 runs allowed tied a program record for most allowed. FSU (13-24, 4-15 ACC) held a 5-0 lead entering the fourth inning, but the Hokies (22-13, 9-9) scored 16 consecutive runs to take control.
The Seminoles built up a 5-0 lead off four home runs, including two from freshman Cam Smith. Smith has five home runs in his past three games and is up to 11 for the season. The 11 is the most for a Seminoles' freshman since 2004.
