Friday night volleyball: Bishop Kenny, Trinity, CCA among second-round playoff winners

On the same night as its district football title, Bishop Kenny's volleyball squad made it a Crusader 2-for-2.

Georgia-committed senior Ally Cavanaugh blasted 13 kills and the Crusaders swept Fernandina Beach 25-12, 25-14, 25-20 in Friday night's Florida High School Athletic Association Region 1-4A volleyball semifinals, extending their regional final streak to 19 years.

Olivia Ryno added 10 kills for Bishop Kenny (18-9), while Cat Haen had 28 assists and Sarah Seabrooke led the defense with 21 digs

Bishop Kenny advances to a Tuesday night home match against South Walton, with a berth in the FHSAA final four on the line. Fernandina Beach ends at 20-6.

South Walton (17-10) punched its regional final ticket by ending the season of Bolles for the second straight year, 22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-23, 15-11.

Grace Albaugh tallied 22 kills in her final Bolles match, while Gracie Arnett supplied 43 assists and Penelope Kavalieros made 43 digs. The Bulldogs end at 21-7.

REGION 1-3A

With 37 kills from sophomore Amaria King, Trinity Christian fought back from an early hole to defeat Winter Park Trinity Prep, 19-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22.

Trinity (25-3), which set a school record for single-season victories, advances to a Tuesday regional final on the road at No. 1 seed Ocala Trinity Catholic.

REGION 1-2A

Christ's Church qualified for the regional final by defeating St. Johns Country Day for the third time this season, winning a 25-13, 25-15, 25-20 sweep. Julia Howard led with 13 kills and Nadia Mortensen added 11 for the Eagles (18-5), while Sydney Kambach added 32 assists and 14 digs. St. Johns finishes at 19-6.

The Eagles will play top-seeded Gainesville Oak Hall (24-4), which survived a comeback by Harvest Community to eliminate the Warriors 25-22, 26-24, 20-25, 20-25, 15-3. Harvest finishes at 13-10.

REGION 3-1A

Union County topped Branford (19-7) for the second time in a week, winning 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 27-25.

The Fightin' Tigers (19-7) next play at District 5-1A winner Aucilla Christian on Tuesday evening.
