Without further ado, here are this week's Friday Night Hero candidates:
Jason Diaz
Shadow Hills linebacker/running back
What he did: The senior linebacker spent almost as much time in the Citrus Hill backfield as their quarterback as Diaz had 12 tackles, including four tackles for a loss and recovered a fumble. He also had a 6-yard touchdown run on offense to cap off a special performance.
Cannon Espinoza
Desert Christian Academy, running back/linebacker
What he did: Espinoza bullied his way to 116 yards rushing on 16 carries, including a 4-yard touchdown run. He also was part of a defense that created six turnovers and has allowed just 8 points in two games.
Leo Felipe
Desert Mirage, receiver and defensive back
What he did: The senior did damage on both sides of the ball with 108 yards rushing on offense and 15 tackles and an interception on defense as the Rams won for the first time since 2018. Wow!
Javin Hudson
Yucca Valley wide receiver/defensive back
What he did: Hudson came up big on both sides of the ball with a huge game. He had two touchdown receptions from his receiver spot and returned an interception for a touchdown as a cornerback. The Trojans needed all those scores in a 35-28 win over Lancaster.
Aiden Nsubuga
La Quinta running back
What he did: The sophomore speedster had a huge night in La Quinta's win over Carter. He had 196 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns and did it in a fill-in role for an injured starter. Talk about responding when your number is called.
