FORT WALTON BEACH – The city is nearing the end of a $125,000 project to resurface tennis and pickleball courts at Ferry Park and at Jet/Holmes Drive Park.

This week, a crew from the Green Cove Springs-based Court Services is repainting the four tennis courts and the adjacent practice court at Ferry Park. Prior to that, a crew had milled down the courts' existing asphalt and replaced it with a new smooth layer. The fencing around the courts has also been replaced, and when the painting is completed new posts and nets will be installed.

This project comes on the heels of recent upgrades to the pickleball courts at the corner of Holmes Boulevard and Jet Drive. Fort Walton Beach had converted two little-used tennis courts into six new pickleball courts, which have been popular with local enthusiasts of the sport since the courts opened in March 2020.

However, the original asphalt was developing cracks and was in need of repair, so the city contracted to have the courts resurfaced and repainted. That part of the project was completed in November.

Weather permitting, the repainting of the Ferry Park tennis courts should wrap up soon, and city officials hope to reopen the courts on Saturday, Jan. 15.
