Former Tennessee basketball transfer Chris Ledlum commits to St. John's, Rick Pitino

Former Tennessee basketball transfer commitment Chris Ledlum has found a new home.

Ledlum committed to St. John's, he announced Wednesday on Instagram. The announcement comes six days after he left Tennessee and re-entered the transfer portal.

Ledlum, a Harvard transfer who committed to the Vols on April 19, was second in the Ivy League in scoring last season at 18.8 points per game. The 6-foot-6 wing could have had a solid chance at being a major part of the Vols' 2023-24 rotation.

He visited St. John's along with Tennessee and Indiana during his initial transfer portal recruitment process in April. New Red Storm coach Rick Pitino has remade his team through the portal with 10 transfers, including Ledlum.

The Vols now have an unexpected roster hole, one that coach Rick Barnes may have trouble filling. Only grad students are eligible to enter the portal at this point in the offseason.

“It was surprising. Something that caught us all off guard," UT associate head coach Justin Gainey said Tuesday about Ledlum's exit from the program. "Something that we weren’t expecting, obviously, coming off of the knee surgery that he was going through. ... We wish him nothing but the best. I hope he finds what he is looking for, finds happiness. As far as it goes with us, it’s been our mentality ever since I’ve been here, since Coach (Barnes) has been here, next man up."

UT returns guards Santiago Vescovi and Jahmai Mashack and forwards Josiah-Jordan James, Jonas Aidoo and Tobe Awaka to next season's roster. The Vols also signed USC Upstate transfer guard Jordan Gainey and Northern Colorado transfer forward Dalton Knecht, as well as freshman guard Cameron Carr and freshmen forwards JP Estrella and Cade Phillips.
