Former South Carolina football tight end Jaheim Bell commits to transfer to Florida State

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football star tight end Jaheim Bell announced his commitment to Florida State on Monday after entering the transfer portal Dec. 6.

The junior took an official visit to Florida State on Friday and announced his commitment with a video on his Instagram account. He is originally from Lake City, Florida, which is just more than 100 miles from the Seminoles' campus in Tallahassee.

Bell finished the season with 231 receiving yards, 261 rushing yards and five total touchdowns, and he ends his South Carolina career with 757 receiving yards and 301 rushing yards. Hihs transfer came after former Gamecocks offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield announced his departure to serve as offensive coordinator at Nebraska. Satterfield has worked on four previous staffs with the Huskers' new coach Matt Rhule and the two are longtime friends.

Bell had a tumultuous relationship with Satterfield this year after receiving limited snaps for most of the season. His mother and uncle both criticized the OC publicly on Twitter after he logged zero touches in South Carolina's Week 9 loss to Missouri. Bell then primarily lined up at running back for the remainder of the season after leading rusher Marshawn Lloyd was injured against the Tigers.

The 6-foot-3, 232-pound tight end is one of seven South Carolina players to enter the portal this year, joining two fellow offensive starters in Lloyd and tight end Austin Stogner. Lloyd reportedly entered Monday, and Stogner will transfer back to Oklahoma after joining the Gamecocks from the Sooners via the portal for the 2022 season.

A third tight end, redshirt junior Traevon Kenion, announced he is "stepping away from football" last week. If none of them play in the bowl game , the Gamecocks will have just one available tight end that recorded a stat this season in sixth-year senior Nate Adkins.

No. 19 South Carolina (8-4) concludes the 2022 season in the Gator Bowl against No. 21 Notre Dame (8-4) on Dec. 30 (3:30 p.m., ESPN) at the Jacksonville Jaguars' TIAA Bank Stadium.
