Westlake has had plenty of venerable alumni make it into the world of pro sports, from former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger to Super Bowl 52 champion Nick Foles.

On Thursday though, the "Godfather" of the Chapparals delivered a message to the state bound baseball team.

"Congratulations on making it to the state championship final four," former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees said. "But you didn't work this hard to get there. You worked this hard to win the damn thing."

"Win it for each other, and win it for all the other guys who came before you who couldn't get there. You guys made it, battled your butt off to get there. Go get the job done man. Go Chaps."

Before throwing for the second most yards in NFL history, Brees was a two year starter at Westlake. In his time there, he went 28-1-1, amassed 5,464 yards and 50 touchdowns and won a championship in 1996 a year after he had torn his ACL.

Last week, the Chapparals punched their ticket to the state semifinals by defeating San Antonio Johnson 3-1. It was a dramatic win that saw them trailing entering the 7th inning before Westlake rallied to tie the game before winning in the 8th.

They will play Pearland in a Class 6A state semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday at Dell Diamond. The winner of the game will play at 4 p.m. Saturday for the state championship against the winner of Friday's Cypress Woods-Lewisville Flower Mound game.
