Ekow Boye-Doe is a Kansas City Chief.

Boye-Doe, a three-year starter at cornerback for Kansas State, signed a free agent contract with the defending Super Bowl champions on Monday after a strong showing during a tryout recently at the team's rookie minicamp.

Boye-Doe, who attended Lawrence High School before attending K-State, was not selected in last month's NFL Draft. But impressed Chiefs scouts enough to get a tryout after running a blazing 4.38-second 40-yard dash and recording a 37-inch vertical jump at K-State's pro day.

The next step for Boye-Doe and the rest of the Chiefs' rookie class is chance to showcase their abilities along with the veterans during Organized Team Activities (OTAs), which start next week.

At K-State, Boye-Doe broke into the lineup early in 2020 and started all 27 games for the Wildcats the past two seasons. Last year he recorded 26 tackles with five pass breakups, a forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Boye-Doe, one of the fastest players on his K-State team throughout his career, redshirted in 2018, appeared in seven games on special teams the following year and got his first career start in the 2020 Big 12 opener at Oklahoma. He finished his sophomore year with 25 tackles and seven passes defended, then in 2021 had 22 stops with two tackles for loss and two pass breakups.

Boye-Doe became the second K-State players from last year's team to join the Chiefs, who drafted Wildcat defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah with the final pick of the first round.

Former K-State defensive end Wyatt Hubert also was invited and participated in the recent Chiefs minicamp. Hubert, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, had announced his retirement last year after missing the 2021 season with a series of injuries, but decided spring to give it another try.
