New food hall in development to include beer garden, outdoor stage
Next summer, a new all-in-one food hall and entertainment venue is slated to open in Brevard.
The Chatterbox, a historic social venue popular in the 1940s, is amid an extensive renovation to create the contemporary creative hub called Brevard Collective at 280 South Broad St.
Once in full swing, the local venture will feature food vendors and celebrate the arts, music and culture of Western North Carolina, said Marketing Manager Tarah Petersen.
The Brevard Collective's design repurposes the site with indoor and outdoor seating that includes a cocktail bar and coffee café with an open-air craft beer garden and live music stage.
Petersen said Brevard Collective will support the local economy by creating more jobs with fair wages.
“In that area, there’s not a lot of jobs right now and it would be a great opportunity to bring in that traffic to the area ― tourism, etc. ― and give jobs to these people in the community,” she said.
Chief Executive Officer Tony D’Alessandro said in a news release that the project also envisioned to encourage local collaboration and creativity and implement sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
Local suppliers and vendors haven’t been selected yet, but the team is set on creating more food and beverage diversity for Brevard diners, including offering vegan and gluten-free options, Petersen said.
Community members are invited to share what type of food and beverages they’d like to see in the food hall by taking an online poll on the business’s website.
Interested dining vendors and food trucks, artists and musicians, may inquire about being a part of the Brevard Collective, too.
“We want to reach out to chefs who don’t have the type of money to start their own business to be able to go in there and be a vendor and test it out,” Petersen said. “There are lots of private chefs in Brevard who haven’t had the money to start their own businesses. We’re also giving that opportunity.”
Future programming for the family-friendly venue is to include local artist expositions, community vendor pop-ups and a farmers market.
