Florida State football: Receiver Johnny Wilson to return to Seminoles for another season

Another major player for the Florida State football team is returning for the 2023 season.

The Battle's End Collective announced via social media Friday that wide receiver Johnny Wilson will return to the Seminoles.

Wilson, an Arizona State transfer, caught 43 passes for 897 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 20.9 yards per catch, catching 22 balls from quarterback Jordan Travis which resulted in 20 yards or more.

He became the first receiver to cross 400 yards receiving since Tamorrion Terry (1,188 yards) in 2019.

Prior to his transfer, Wilson had just 18 catches for 243 yards and a touchdown with the Sun Devils.

Wilson nearly eclipsed that number in two separate games. In the Cheez-It Bowl, he caught eight passes for 202 yards. His other big game was a seven-reception, 149-yard, two-touchdown game against Louisville, one which he took over following an injury exit in the first half to Travis.

He finished with an 82.0 PFF receiving grade (32nd) and 82.3 overall offensive grade (T-38th).

Along with Wilson, Travis, running back Trey Benson and receiver Mycah Pittman have all announced their intentions to return. Running back Treshaun Ward is headed to the portal, with tight end Cam McDonald graduating, representing the only major skill players who will depart from the team in 2023.
