Florida State football lands another South Carolina transfer in DE Gilber Edmond
Call the South Carolina football team the Florida State farm system.
Because under fourth-year coach Mike Norvell, the Seminoles continue to pluck former Gamecock stars from the transfer portal.
The latest South Carolina transfer to verbally commit to FSU, defensive end Gilber Edmond, announced the news via social media Tuesday.
The Seminoles have now added five starters from the Gamecocks via the transfer portal: safety Jammie Robinson (2021), defensive end Keir Thomas (2021), offensive tackle Jazston Turnetine (2022), tight end Jaheim Bell (2023) and Edmond (2023).

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Edmond has two years of eligibility remaining and could immediately crack FSU’s two-deep depth chart at defensive end. He appeared in 12 games with 10 starts last season, recording 39 tackles, nine tackles for a loss and two sacks.
247Sports gives Edmond a four-star transfer rating, ranking him as its No. 3 edge rusher and No. 39 overall player in the portal this cycle. On3 is less high on Edmond, ranking him No. 43 among transfer edge rushers.

How Florida State landed Gilber Edmond
Edmond attended the in-state Fort Pierce Westwood High before joining the Gamecocks’ 2020 recruiting class.
So it made sense that Edmond chose to move closer to home.
Edmond entered the transfer portal on Dec. 15. He then received interest from several of the nation’s top programs, including Florida and LSU. The Seminoles ultimately landed Edmond, though, after hosting him on an official visit last week.
With Edmond in the mix, FSU now has a nine-player 2023 transfer class that ranks No. 1 and No. 2 nationally on 247Sports and On3, respectively.
