Fire closes El Chinchorro Boricua in Spartanburg. Puerto Rican restaurant will re-open.
El Chinchorro Boricua (910 E. Main St., Spartanburg) will be closed this weekend while making repairs following a kitchen fire Thursday.
Owner Rosendo Duran told the Herald-Journal that the fire started on the kitchen’s cooking range when a pan of oil overheated and the fire extinguishers failed.
No one was injured in the fire. The building itself was undamaged due to the the kitchen’s range hood, though the hood was damaged and will need to be repaired.
“It was scary. When you were outside you could see the flames, but it was from the hood, it was not from the building. But we’re all safe and the building (is okay), it’s a good thing (the hood) stopped it,” Duran said. “It could be worse.”
Duran said the restaurant will be closed through at least the first of next week for repairs and inspections. He hopes to resume regular hours next Wednesday.
