FHP: Suspect arrested after hit-and-run claims life of Pensacola bicyclist

The suspect in the Tuesday night hit-and-run that took the life of a Pensacola bicyclist has been arrested.

Dowone Phillips, 25, of Pensacola, was traveling south on Border Street approaching Dogwood Drive in a Dodge SUV at approximately 9:21 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The bicyclist, a 37-year-old Pensacola man, was riding south on Border Street on the west shoulder when the front side of the SUV struck him. He succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

Phillips abandoned the SUV and fled on foot. He was later apprehended and arrested for hit-and-run.
