Fayetteville native Nate Horne wins junior golf championship in Louisiana

Fayetteville native Nate Horne is a national champion.

Horne, 11, recently won the Notah Begay III Boys Junior Golf National Championship in the 10-11 division at Koasati Pines Golf Club in Louisiana, an event that featured Tiger Woods' son Charlie.

With three consecutive rounds in the 60s, including a 4-under-par 68 in the final round, Horne earned a one-stroke victory with a score of 12 under.

Horne was six strokes off the lead after the opening round and four shots back entering the final round before he completed the comeback.

Over the course of the three-day tournament, which featured five age divisions, Horne rolled in 14 birdies and an eagle. He was the only player from North Carolina competing in his division.

Fellow Fayetteville native Taft Courie, a 14-year-old golfer at Village Christian Academy, tied for 20th in the 14-15 division.

Charlie Woods, son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, finished 11th in the 12-13 division. The 54-hole event was televised Dec. 7 on Golf Channel.
