Farrell breaks his own mark in the 100-meter dash at Marmonte League track finals
This spring, he’s Chasing “crazy numbers.”
Six days running after the fourth-fastest 100-meter dash in the state at the Ventura County Championships, Oaks Christian junior Chase Farrell shattered his own meet record, winning track’s signature event in 10.52 seconds at Thursday’s Marmonte League track and field finals at Westlake High.
“Honestly, this year for me is to prove to myself that I’m capable of outworking my past self,” Farrell said. “Proving to me and those around me that I can achieve great things, that I can run these crazy numbers. I’ve proven myself so far. Obviously, I’ve got a lot left in the tank.”

Farrell’s 10.38 last Friday at Moorpark High was a personal best. Thursday’s 10.52 eclipsed the 10.61 he ran as a freshman in 2021.
But the Stanford-bound speedster is still looking to rev even faster as he surges into the postseason.
“I didn’t expect to PR today, but I was right around where I thought I would be,” Farrell said. “I’m just looking forward to getting towards the end of the season, when numbers start getting real low.”
Farrell’s performance was just one of many standout performances during the league finals.
Oaks Christian junior Niya Clayton won the girls 100 meters in a personal-best 11.69, the 200 in 24.54, and the 100 hurdles in 14.87.

Newbury Park senior Brayden Seymour and Oaks Christian junior Payton Godsey both doubled in the distance races.
Seymour won the boys 1,600 in 4:19.69 and the 3,200 in 9:11.81. Godsey took the girls 1,600 in 4:53.89 and the 3,200 in 10:54.83.
Westlake senior Adam Laycock doubled up in the boys throws, taking the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 9 inches and the discuss with a toss of 160-9.
Thousand Oaks High senior Jeremy Frank doubled in the boys hurdles events, but it wasn’t without a challenge from his own teammate.
Frank and fellow Lancers senior Pyrce Edwards split the two hurdles events at the county championships last week. Six days later, the practice partners were still their only competition.
“It’s been incredible,” Frank said. “It’s a large part of why we’re where we are this year. We’ve both improved beyond our wildest imaginations at this point.”
Frank won the 110 hurdles in 14.49 and the 300 hurdles in 39.42. Edwards, a transfer from Chaminade, finished second in 14.55 and 39.66, respectively.

“We survive and we advance,” Frank said. “It’s not like we had some big external competition today, despite all these great athletes out here.
“We go week to week, keep surviving. Hopefully, along the way, we’ll knock out some great times, great marks. We’re just both trying to get as fast as we can and place as high as we possibly can by the end of May.”
Oaks Christian sophomore Lexington Leffall won the boys 200 in 21.58. Westlake junior Ifeoluwaleyi Orekoya won the 400 in 48.79. Calabasas senior Luke Sawyer won the 800 in 1:55.86.
