FAMU’s Kiara Ivy sets new national record at Trinidad and Tobago National Championships
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO ― Florida A&M Women's Track & Field pole vaulter Kiara Ivy traveled to compete in the Trinidad & Tobago National Championships and set a new national record with a score of 3.3 meters.
Ivy was the only woman to compete in the event and competed with the men and finished in first place amongst the entire group. Ivy's 3.3 meters beat the previous record of 2.36 meters.
"I want to thank Dr. Wayne Davis Sr. for helping me represent Trinidad and coach Ken Barton for letting me join Concorde Athletics Club and represent them as well," said Ivy. "And, of course, FAMU Track and Field and FAMU Athletics for giving me the platform and confidence to rise over the years."
Ivy finished her last season with the Rattlers this past year and won four gold medals and one bronze in the pole vault during her time as a Rattler.
