The Prince Of Egypt was first released to cinema screens an incredible 21 years ago, and it's safe to say a lot has changed over the past two decades.

The film's original composer, Stephen Schwartz, recently spoke exclusively to Digital Spy for The Prince of Egypt musical, and opened up about what he thinks would be different if the movie was made today.

"First of all, it probably wouldn’t have been hand-drawn," he said.

"It wouldn’t be 2D, because they’re not making 2D movies anymore, which I think is a shame, because the artistry involved in those classic animated features – and not just The Prince of Egypt, but the Disney animated features – the art is so amazing. But now it’s basically CGI.

"It’s basically 3D animation, which also can be impressive, but I feel doesn’t have quite the same artistic… it’s not as artistically overwhelming as I find some of the earlier animated work. So that would be one difference."

He added: "And probably some of the story would be more alert to some of the contemporary issues."

Speaking of the show coming to London's West End as a musical, he continued: "I don’t want to give too much away, which is why I’m being a little vague, because there are a lot of surprises in the show.

"But perhaps that would have happened – although the movie stuck more closely to the Bible story, and particularly the Bible story from a western point of view, than the show does."

Schwartz previously explained the musical has 10 new songs in it, which should make up for the hit 'Playing With The Big Boys' getting cut.

"It's a full score which utilises 10 new songs or themes or pieces of material," he said.

"But like any score I write, the themes are going to come back, and there are going to be places where more than one song is sort of happening at the same time in the underscoring or in the finale."

The Prince of Egypt is now playing at the Dominion Theatre in London until September 12. Tickets are available now.
