When he was a 13-year-old kid and aspiring sports broadcaster growing up in Evansville, Brandon Gaudin wrote a letter to famed Atlanta Braves TV announcer Skip Caray looking for advice.

Caray answered, and Gaudin kept chasing his dream.

All these years later, who would have thought Gaudin would be following in the Caray family's footsteps?

On Thursday, Bally Sports South announced it had hired Gaudin, a Harrison High School graduate, as the new play-by-play voice of the Braves. He replaces Chip Caray, Skip's son, who left the Braves' booth to join the TV broadcast team for the St. Louis Cardinals.

“Today is the realization of a childhood dream,” Gaudin said in a news release. “I get to be behind the mic for the team I grew up idolizing. And the team who fostered my love for both sports and broadcasting. I’m grateful to both the Braves and Bally Sports for this incredible opportunity. I cannot wait to work alongside this team and talented broadcast crew.”

Gaudin has worked as a play-by-play broadcaster for FOX Sports, Westwood One and the Big Ten Network for the last few years, broadcasting MLB, NFL and college football and basketball games. He's also been the voice of the Madden football video game series for several seasons and previously announced University of Evansville, Butler University and Georgia Tech sports.

“Brandon is the perfect fit for what we were looking for as the new voice of the Atlanta Braves on Bally Sports,” said Jeff Genthner, senior vice president and general manager of Bally Sports South and Bally Sports Southeast. “His proven qualifications as a national broadcaster, coupled with his passion for the Atlanta Braves and city of Atlanta make him an excellent fit for our broadcast team. We are excited to welcome him to Bally Sports.”

Gaudin's parents moved from Evansville in 2003 to Fort Worth, Texas after Gaudin graduated from Harrison in 2002.
