OSHKOSH – The Oshkosh Fire Department said there were no injuries after a fire was reported on the south side of the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel & Convention Center in downtown Oshkosh that led to guests and staff members being evacuated and a section of North Main Street to be temporarily blocked.

According to a press release, the department received a call that there was a fire at 10:56 a.m. The fire was in the back stairway, and the first team responding reported "high heat and heavy smoke." The fire was then quickly extinguished.

Hotel staff members, along with the Oshkosh Police Department, worked to ensure all guests and other staff members were out of the building.

As the scene unfolded, a dozen emergency vehicles surrounded the area, including firefighters using a fire hose. Onlookers watched, including hotel workers who were waiting for word on when they could re-enter, according to one who spoke with The Northwestern. That worker also said she heard alarms while inside the hotel.

The Oshkosh Fire Department said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
