Alleged drunk driver crashes car into New Milford house, damaging basement

Firefighters were tasked with removing a a car that an alleged drunk driver crashed into a New Milford house Sunday evening, the Hackensack Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday at a house on River Road. First responders extricated the driver from the car.

The driver was uninjured but was charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a breath test, reckless driving and careless driving, New Milford Police Capt. Kevin Van Saders said.

No one inside the house was injured, Van Saders said.

The car, a Tesla, went straight through the exterior basement wall into the house. Firefighters from New Milford and Hackensack assisted with the removal.

Firefighters provided temporary shoring to the structure in order to remove the car.
