District 10 football playoff games kick off Friday with quarterfinals, 2 title games

The District 10 football playoffs begin Friday with two champions likely being crowned on the first day.

The D-10 Class 4A championship between Corry and Region 4 champion Meadville is set for Friday at Franklin High School at 7 p.m., according to the brackets released by the District 10 committee.

McDowell running back Artis Simmons takes a handoff in front of Cathedral Prep defensive end Xavier Goshay on Sept. 30 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Erie. The Trojans are scheduled to play Butler in the District 10 Class 6A championship Friday because of a court-approved injunction to stop the District 7 ban on the Golden Tornado from playing in the D-10 playoffs.

The D-10 Class 6A championship situation is still tentative, but for now, McDowell will play Butler at 7 p.m. at Veterans Stadium on Friday. Butler received a court-approved injunction on Friday to stop the District 7 ban on the Golden Tornado from playing in the D-10 playoffs. The PIAA is set to appeal the decision early in the week. If the PIAA wins the appeal, Erie would likely replace Butler in the D-10 championship game at a new site determined. If the PIAA loses the appeal, the game goes on as scheduled between McDowell and Butler.

The Class 3A quarterfinals are also set for Friday night. Top-seeded Grove City plays Fairview at Farrell High School, while Region 5 champion General McLane plays Hickory at Edinboro, Oil City plays Slippery Rock at Titusville and Fort LeBoeuf takes on Sharon at Greenville.

The Saturday slate includes the Class 1A and 2A quarterfinals. Both classes have six-team fields with Eisenhower and Reynolds getting byes in 1A and Farrell and Sharpsville getting byes in 2A.

In Class 1A, Cambridge Springs plays Mercer at Meadville at 7 p.m. and Lakeview takes on Maplewood at Farrell at 7 p.m.

In Class 2A, Seneca battles Northwestern at Fort LeBoeuf at 7 p.m. and Mercyhurst Prep plays Wilmington at Veterans Stadium at 7 p.m.

Cathedral Prep is off for almost a month as every PIAA subregional opponent has opted out in the Class 5A bracket. The Ramblers' next game is scheduled for Nov. 25-25 against the WPIAL champion in the PIAA quarterfinals.
