The Arizona Diamondbacks made another deadline acquisition on Tuesday, landing veteran outfielder Tommy Pham from the New York Mets in exchange for a low-level prospect.

Pham gives them a veteran right-handed bat for the outfield, allowing them to play matchups more effectively with either Alek Thomas or Jake McCarthy when facing left-handed pitching.

Pham, 35, is hitting .268/.348/.472 with 10 homers in 231 at-bats. He has an OPS nearly 100 points higher against left-handers, with eight of his 10 homers coming vs. lefties.

"The offense probably was less of an area that we were spending a lot of our time on, more on getting the players we have going back in the other direction," Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said. "But this is the last chance you have to improve your roster for the rest of the season, outside of somebody getting released. He has a proven track record of hitting. What we had heard in New York is how motivated and disciplined he was in the clubhouse in making himself a really good baseball player. I think that’s something that will fit in into our clubhouse."

The Diamondbacks parted with shortstop Jeremy Rodriguez, a 17-year-old who was hitting .256/.371/.393 in 117 at-bats in the Dominican Summer League.
