Detroit Tigers claim P Seth Elledge off waivers, transfer Beau Brieske to 60-day IL
The Detroit Tigers claimed right-handed reliever Seth Elledge off waivers Tuesday from the New York Mets.
Elledge, who turns 27 on Saturday, has pitched in 10 games, spanning 14⅔ innings for Triple-A Gwinnett with the Atlanta Braves and Triple-A Syracuse with the Mets in the 2023 season.
The Tigers optioned him to Triple-A Toledo.

At the Triple-A level, Elledge owns a career 5.15 ERA with 67 walks (11.7% walk rate) and 156 strikeouts (27.2% strikeout rate) across 131 innings in 104 appearances. This season, he posted a 6.75 ERA with 10 walks and 15 strikeouts.
He was designated for assignment by the Mets over the weekend.
Elledge has pitched 23⅓ innings through 23 appearances in MLB for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, logging a 4.63 ERA with 15 walks (14.4% walk rate) and 25 strikeouts (24% strikeout rate).
He threw two pitches in the 2021 campaign: 93.9 mph sinker and 82.9 mph slider. He also has a changeup in his arsenal.
To make room for Elledge, the Tigers transferred right-hander Beau Brieske (right ulnar nerve entrapment) to the 60-day injured list. Transferring Brieske opened a spot on the 40-man roster.
Brieske has been rehabbing in Lakeland, Florida.
