DeSales' Aidan Shannon named Columbus area high school athlete of the week

In a vote that ended Oct. 7, Dispatch.com readers selected the Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from before Oct. 2.

This week's winner is DeSales cross country runner Aidan Shannon.

Shannon has broken the school record three times this season and placed second at the Midwest Catholic Cross Country Championship.

Shannon received 36.8% of the vote and was followed by Centerburg football player Tyler Johnson, who had 18.1% of the votes. Next was Canal Winchester football player Braylon Beckwith (16.8%), Hamilton Township volleyball player Ashley Kefauver (9.1%), Sparta Highland football player Dane Nauman (6.7%), Westerville South football player Nasir Phillips (5.5%) and Dublin Jerome football player Zakk Tschirhart (3.6%).

Johnson, the runner-up, completed 9 of 16 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown and had 23 carries for 200 yards and two touchdowns in a 47-14 win over Cardington-Lincoln. Defensively, he had four tackles, one tackle for loss and two pass breakups.

Beckwith had a school-record four interceptions in a 13-10 win over Dublin Scioto. He also recorded seven solo tackles, four assists and a pass breakup.  He made the game-ending tackle on fourth down.
