If you're the parent of a dog or a cat, figuring out how to travel with your beloved fur baby can be intimidating. I'll never forget the process of adopting my mom's two dogs after she passed away. The decision to welcome Mac and Ethel into my home was a no-brainer, but how to get them from Alabama to my apartment in New York was a completely different story.

In the end, I decided to rent a car and drive my two mini-Schnauzers to the Big Apple instead of flying by Delta, with whom I am a proud frequent flier. If I'm being honest, I was nervous about the prospect of putting my two babies into the cargo section of a plane. But now Delta has announced a new innovation that could be a game changer in the travel industry.

The airline has launched a partnership with CarePod, and the introduction of the high-tech pet travel carrier to its flights has several perks. One is the addition of a GPS tracking and monitoring system, which allows professionals at Delta Cargo Control Center to monitor pet journeys from beginning to end. Pet parents, meanwhile, can get real-time updates during their flight. CarePod also boasts the world's first built-in hydration system for pet travel carriers, so your little boy or girl can get a bowl of fresh water.

CarePod is exclusively offered by Delta at eight U.S. airports following a successful two-month trial: Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York (JFK and LaGuardia), San Francisco and West Palm Beach. A phased rollout will begin at a later date across Delta's U.S. network.

You can book a CarePod for your pet by visiting deltacargo.com or calling Delta’s Cargo Customer Service Center at 1-800-352-2746.
